4 out of 5 stars Great unit for what it's meant to do   July 2, 2008

The MobilePro 900C is a very well-designed older unit that does everything it is supposed to do very well.

The unit itself seems well built, made of sturdy plastic. It feels comfortable in your hands. The keyboard, although a bit smaller than a normal computer keyboard, is large enough that a competent typer should not have a problem adjusting (it took me a few minutes before I was typing at full speed).

The included programs do the job: you have a word processor (simple, but useful); a spreadsheet editor (again, simple but good for viewing spreadsheets on the go); and a PowerPoint viewer (a bit slow in loading, but not when displaying presentations).
The PIM utilities are OK - not as good as those on a PDA, but still usable.

The screen is acceptable, but does not do well in direct sunlight (or any sunlight for that matter). It is an older screen, so games and movies will tend to display "ghosting", or retention of images on the screen after they should have disappeared. I didn't find this to be a problem in office software.

I found the operating system to be a bit slow, but not unusable.

You can plug in a Wifi PCMCIA card (make sure you search to find compatible drivers before you buy) and surf, but some more modern pages will not work well (eg - Youtube).

It's not small enough to fit into a pocket, but it is small enough to be very convenient and portable. It's size also gives it a relatively long battery life.

PROS: Well-designed; CF and PCMCIA slots; edit Office documents; battery life
CONS: Screen "ghosting"; screen in sunlight; slightly slow interface

Overall, a great unit if you want to edit office documents on the go.
